Finished Sizes

Instructions are for adult sizes Small/Medium (18” – 20”) & LG/XL (22” – 24”). Final adjustments in size are made with weaving of elastic cord.

Materials

Worsted weight yarn in three colors – Choose a yarn that has enough body to it to hold its shape in the finished product. Soft yarns, while fun to pet, are not ideal for this project due to the shaping necessary in the top and brim of the hat.

Color A: approx 126yds
Color B: approx 36yds
Color C: approx 28yds

H/8/5mm hook (or size needed to obtain gauge) – using worsted weight yarn, an H hook works well but with some yarns it might be advisable to use a G hook to obtain a tighter fabric. This will allow for better shaping of the finished hat.

Tapestry needle

Elastic jewelry cord – you can find this at your local craft store or a well-equipped local yarn shop.

Gauge

14 st = 4 inches; 14 rows = 4 inches.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in the round. Place a stitch marker at the beginning of each round to make it easier to keep track of the number of stitches to be worked in each round.

Rounds are not joined with a slip stitch unless otherwise indicated.

Brim is worked holding two strands of yarn together.
