Materials

• Designing Vashti Lotus fine (sport) weight cotton/rayon yarn (3 1/2 oz/256 yds/100g per ball): 3 balls #23 teal glimmer
• Sizes E/4/3.5mm and H/8/5mm crochet hooks or sizes needed to obtain gauge
• Tapestry needle
• Beading needle
• 8mm glass bicone beads: 42 clear and 49 blue
• Plastic foam block: 5 x 5 inches and at least 1/2 inch thick
• Sewing pins: 20-30

Gauge*
Butterfly Knot with size E hook: 5 1/2 inches wide x 4 1/4 inches long
Bottom Knot with size E hook: 5 1/4 inches wide x 4 1/2 inches long
In pattern with size H hook: 3 3-tr shells = 4 inches; 6 rows = 4 inches

CORRECTIONS and explanation to pattern below for LEFT and RIGHT sides of shawl - not the butterfly knot center part

Left Side Corrections:
Row 5: With Wrong Side facing join with sl st to 10th sc, Beg 5 TR Shell in same st, sk 7 sts, 3 TR Shell, sk 3 sts, 3 TR shell, (sk 7 sts, 3 TR shell) across leaving last 2 scs unworked at end of row. Turn.

In the magazine, it is printed that you only skip 3 sts when working across - this is INCORRECT - you only sk 3 sts at the beg after 1st sk 7 sts (to create the increase) and then sk 7 sts in between each 3tr shell all the way across.

So, in the magazine the Row 5 is incorrect AND Row 7 - I had the repeat starting at Rows 5 and 6 but it was re-written to start at 7 & 8 which means more needs to be fixed. Rows 5 and 7 should read THE SAME - as written above.

Right Side corrections:
Row 7: Ch 1, sc in 1st 3 scs, sl st into next sc, Beg 3TR Shell in same sp, sk 7 sts, 3 TR Shell, sk 3 sts, 3 Tr Shell, sk 7 sts, 5 TR Shell. Turn.
Row 8: Repeat Row 4
Row 9: Ch 1, sc in 1st 3 scs, sl st in next st, Beg TR Shell in same st, sk 7 sts, 3 TR shell in next st, sk 7 sts across to last 3 TR shell (from 2 rows below); 3 TR Shell in next st, sk 3 sts, 3 TR Shell in next st (increase made); sk 7 sts, 5 TR Shell, leave remaining sts unworked. Turn.

The main difference is that in the printed instructions the increase (shown above with underline) is left out. So, for all to understand:

Each 3-tr shell is worked in line with the 3-tr shell below it (it is 2 rows below because there is a row of just sc in between every shell row) - so the CENTER tr should line up with the CENTER tr of the shell above it.

The only time the 3-tr shells do NOT line up is at the end of the row (for the Right Side) and at the beg. of the row (for the Left Side) - at these places 2 3-tr shells are worked into 1 3-tr shell of the shell row below. This is the increase and adds one 3-tr shell every other row (or every shell row). The 5-tr shell at the end (of Right Side) and at the beg.(of the Left Side) just makes the pretty edging but does not make the increase.
