This hat is part of The Fir Tree Suite, which has matching mitts and cowl. It’s a fairly straightforward knit with 1/1 cables and twisted stitches for the fir tree motif, making it suitable for a first time cable knitter.
This can be worked up with either a long folded brim, or a short beanie type brim, depending on preference and yarn available.
This pattern calls for a light worsted weight yarn, such as Debbie Biss Cashmerino Aran, or Ella Rae Superwash Classic (used in sample pictures), to give a gauge of approximately 20 stitches for 4 inches in stockinette in the round.
The chart has completely written out line by line instructions.
