The creatively dyed Desert Carefree yarn from Dyelicious Yarn starts off dark, quickly transitions to light, then slowly transitions back to dark. The unique dye method creates a colourway that is different from anything I have ever worked with before, so I wanted to design something unlike anything I had ever made before.

This asymmetrical shawl, worked from the top down, highlights the yarn’s colour changes and uses simple stitch patterns so that the colours can take centre stage. Four versions are included in the instructions: you can choose to make the shawl with the eyelet section on the right- or left-hand side, and you can make those eyelets with either ssk decreases (left-leaning) or k2tog decreases (right-leaning).

The techniques you will need to know--or learn--to complete this project are:

  • garter tab cast-on (explained in pattern);
  • knit and purl;
  • yo increase:
  • kyok double increase;
  • k2tog decrease;
  • ssk decrease;
  • lace bind-off (explainied in pattern).

“For decades, Flesherton has been known as the hub for arts, culture and food in southern Grey. It is also a designated ‘walking village,’ a great place to stroll or to start a hike.”
