These socks were created for the #SingingSockTogether2025 challenge, where we knit 12 pairs of socks in a year, each inspired by a monthly theme. The August theme, Adventure Awaits, took me into the forest. With earthy yarn and textured stitches, these socks reflect the layered beauty of the forest floor: moss, leaves, soil, and roots, a reminder that adventure begins under our feet.

About the Construction
The Forest floor socks are worked from the cuff down with a flexible Long Tail Cast-on. The leg alternates between moss stitch, ribbing, Broken Seed stitch, and small cables, echoing the layered textures of the forest floor.
The socks feature a heel flap and gusset construction for a snug, comfortable fit. After the heel, the upper foot continues in the textured pattern, while the sole is worked in smooth stockinette stitch for comfort and durability. The design is finished with a classic wedge toe and a neat grafting for a seamless look.
This combination of textures and subtle cables makes the design engaging to knit while still highlighting the beauty of speckled or earthy yarns.

Sizing: Kid (Adult S/M, Adult M/L).
Finished measurements
Sock circumference: 17.5 (20, 22.5) cm.
Foot length (adjustable): 19 (23, 25) cm.

Materials
Yarn: Fingering weight yarn, approximately 235 (300, 360) m.
Yardage may vary if your gauge/yarn is different.
The brown sample used: Gazzal “Happy feet”, 75% Superwash Merino Wool, 25% Polyamide, 330m/100g. Color: Mango mojito.
The green sample used: Drops “Nord”, 45% Alpaca, 30% Polyamide, 25% Wool, 170m/50g. Color: 10.
Gauge: 30 sts & 42 rounds = 10 cm in stockinette stitch, worked in the round.
Needles:
2.25mm DPNs (or a long circular needle for the Magic Loop method)
Or adjust needle size to meet gauge.
Other notions: stitch markers, darning needle, measuring tape.
