Forest for the Trees Towel
Skill Level: Intermediate
This evergreen towel (or table runner) is a workhorse year round, over the holiday season, and is a fitting tribute to the 2016 National Park Service Centennial, celebrating 100 years with a birthday August 25th!
A variety of tree sizes are grouped, written (and charted) into six sections. You get to choose how to combine the sections into your own customized towel.
Worked top down, flat, seamlessly in mosaic garter stitch, knit sections in any order (mix or match) for as many repeats as you choose. Yardage is listed for all sections worked one time at gauge given.
Mosaic garter stitch involves garter (knit) and slipped stitches using one strand of yarn for two rows at a time (switching color strands every two rows). If you can knit stripes and slip stitches it will be easy.
Gauge and dimensions are provided in worsted weight cotton with size US 7 (4.5mm) needles. Adjust the needle size and/or yarn weight to obtain desired gauge.
Use contrasting solid colors or try a semi-solid tonal yarn for one of the colors. As long as the contrasting and main colors contrast well, the pattern will reveal itself. The pattern provides written instructions with (optional) charts for making useful household linens and gifts!
