Both a pattern for these socks, AND a full Field Guide to knitting custom toe-up socks, this guide will take you through toe-up sock construction from ankle socks, to thigh-highs, and everything in between.

If you’ve ever wanted to try toe-up socks, this pattern and guide is the perfect place to start!

The pattern is written to be fully customizable to your unique calf, and thigh, width, and height. To begin, you will select a standard FOOT size from Kids Large/Teen, Adult Small, Adult Medium, & Adult Large, and from there embark on a fully supported custom sock adventure.

Here is a peek at what this pattern/guide has to offer:

Two gauge options:
-Instructions provided for two different gauge options, standard sock gauge in fingering weight yarn, and sport weight sock gauge.

Four Sock Heights:
-The pattern includes detailed instructions for ankle socks, mid-calf socks, knee socks, and thigh highs.

Inclusivity and Accessibility:
-The pattern includes instructions on adding an optional gusset to your GSR heel for larger heel sizes.
-The pattern includes almost three pages of very detailed instructions on how to customize the circumference and height of your socks to your exact body size and shape.
-Additional notes on shaping decreases after the calf, for knee highs and higher, to ensure a good cuff fit for bodies with calves that are significantly fuller than the knee area.
-Accessibility friendly custom GSR knee shaping for knitters with the mobility restrictions. These customizations provide a knee fit that is much better suited for a wearer that it seated, by creating additional fabric in the front of the knee to cover the full kneecap of a seated person, without creating an excess of fabric behind the knee.

Custom Cuff Options:
-The instructions provide options for a regular length cuff, or a folded length cuff with a stretchy BO that ensures they are easy to get on and off over the calf.

Design elements included:
-Lateral braid
-Cable knitting with reverse stockinette
-Stockinette roll at the top of the cuff
-Optional folded cuff
-1x1 ribbed cuff

Other Information Noted in the Guide:
-Tips on yarn selection for each type of sock
-Resources for optional elastic for cuffs in knee high and above options
-Video links for visual support
-Full charts for cable sections

At 18 pages, this guide was a labor of love, and is so much more than just a knitting pattern (to be clear this pattern will produce the socks pictured, as well as an extensive and detailed guide to custom toe-up socks, with all the bells and whistles). I hope it gives you the confidence to make a pair of toe-up socks that are perfectly suited to you!

The sample was knitted in Rauma Finull, not sponsored, I just love that yarn for durable but light, and very warm socks.
