I reworked an in-the-round 1892 Butterick mitten pattern into a flat-knit afghan strip by adding purl rows. The resulting elongated pattern reminded me of fox tracks in the snow and hare tracks scurrying to get away from the fox!
There are 16 pattern rows (8 rows are purl across with 2 selvage stitches) and 35 stitches in each row.
The afghan strip is 4.75 inches wide at gauge but any gauge will work.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, SSK, S2KP and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

40 yards of Aunt Lydia’s Classic 10 thread will make 10 inches of this afghan strip at gauge.
