I am an amateur wine maker. My kitchen pays homage to all things “grapey” and “winey”. I have drawn grapes, beaded grapes, embroidered grapes….you get the point. I like grapes and I like wine. It stands to reason that I would want to capture the noble grape in yarn…my favorite medium. I thought long and hard about how I could create a scarf that would be realistic down to the little plump grapes, the serrated leaves, and the twisted vines….I thought long and hard on how I could create one of the most tedious and time consuming patterns I’ve ever knitted. Okay…I didn’t intend for it to be tedious and time consuming, it just turned out that way. Although I am certain I will never never ever ever make another one of these, the one I made was so worth the effort!

Difficulty: Moderate…for experienced knitters. This pattern features a robust cable pattern, and some complicated assembly…it will require time and concentration.

Here are some suggestions for how you might “non-conform” to my pattern…because ultimately, I don’t want your scarf to look like mine!
• The length of the scarf is entirely up to you! (Keep in mind that some changes will affect the amount of yarn required).
• Yarn substitutions are always an option. Pick any DK weight yarn.
• Grapes come in lots of different colors…pick your favorite variety.
• I think a variegated, tonal or hand-dyed yarn would make awesome leaves.
• Where you place your bunches and leaves is up to you….how many you have is also up to you. Seriously, I got tired of making grapes or I probably would have had more bunches.
