Furth – an old Scottish word meaning “outside” – is a warm winter hat that uses a different method to add a lush, fake-fur band. Hint: “On the outside.”

It’s worked from the top down in spiral rounds.

YARN
NOTES
1. I used Knit Picks Tuff Puff in Marina, a super-bulky weight yarn, for the blue sample hat. Yarn mixes – two or more strands of yarn held together – can also be used if the yarn mix meets the pattern stitch gauge.
2. Like the main yarn, the fur yarn –Lion Brand Romance in Moonlight – is also a super-bulky weight. One pattern tester substituted Red Heart Boutique Fur Yarn, which is a Jumbo weight (#7) and used about ½ as much yarn (11 yd./10 m) as the super-bulky yardage. Another tester used two strands of a Chunky weight (#5 Bulky) and used about twice as many yards.
