Garter Rib Hat
Orange model hat is knit with a gauge of 5 in a size 18-36 month.
Gray model hat is knit with a gauge of 4 in a size child
The Garter Rib Hat is in the Master Patterns Collection. It is a multi-gauge pattern that shows instructions for the following gauges in sts per one inch: 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, 6.5.
My goal in creating this pattern was to allow knitters more freedom in yarn choice. You can choose a weight of yarn from fingering to bulky and the charts in the pattern will show you exactly how to knit your particular size in the yarn you’ve chosen.
Special sizing charts are also shown, so that you can take exact measurements of the recipients head and find the size that will fit the best.
Materials are as follows:
Yarn:
Any yarn that you’d like to work with that gives you a gauge from 4 - 6.5 sts per inch
(10 - 16.5 st per cm).
Amount differs with gauge and hat size.
Approximate yardage for children sizes: 100 - 220 yards (90 - 200 meters).
Approximate yardage for adult sizes: 140 - 320 yards (130 - 300 meters)
Needles:
- One 16” circular needle in gauge size
- One 16” circular needle 2-3 sizes smaller than gauge size, for ribbing
- DPNs in gauge size (For Baby sizes, use one set of DPNs in gauge size and one set of DPNs in ribbing size instead of circulars)
This is an excellent pattern for Magic Loop. Just switch the 16” circs to 40” circs
and forget the DPNs
Notions:
- One stitch marker
- One tapestry needle for weaving in ends
