Warm your winter with a colorful reminder of summer’s brilliant Gazanias (aka “African Daisies”).

Ladies’ hemmed hat knit in Fair Isle technique with a few purl stitches for texture and a bit of optional embroidery. PDF has instructions and charts for both the knitting and the embroidery. Hat’s finished circumference = 20 3/4” / 53cm, sized to fit the average adult female head, when knit to gauge. Suitable for intermediate knitters familiar with Fair Isle knitting and working from charts.

GAUGE: 30 sts and 34 rows = 4” / 10cm in stranded stockinette stitch with larger needles.

NEEDLES: If you knit loosely, try US size 3 / 3.25mm for the main section and US size 2½ / 3.0mm for the hem. If you knit tightly, try US size 4 / 3.5mm for the main section and US size 3 / 3.25mm for the hem. As always, you’ll want to use whatever size needle gives you the correct gauge.

YARN: Five different colors of Jamieson’s of Shetland “Spindrift” 100% Shetland wool yarn are used. The yarn packs, sold on my website, come with one full 25g ball of each of the five colors. I’ve set up two different colorways for yarn packs for Gazania here, but the color possibilities really are endless with this type of design, so feel free to contact me if you’d like some color substitutions. Have fun!!
