Construction

Ghost Fern is knit top down, it’s a garment with round circular yoke construction, and features raw edging and short row shaping for the neckline, all over or partial (of your choice) lace yoke section, ribbing for the sleeves that is incorporated into sleeve section (or custom length sleeves, you decide), and t-shirt length body.
Each lace pattern repeat is designed to resemble a leaf of a ghost fern, bobbles are spaced out throughout for added texture.
Some of my testers have substituted the bobbles with the beads, and the results look wonderful! Give it a try!

Materials

Yarn

For the sample I used Magpie Fibers Swanky Sock

(80% superwash merino, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon; 400 yards / 366 meters per 115g skein).

If using this yarn, you’ll need approximately (2, 2, 3)(3, 3, 3)(4, 4, 4) skeins.

Color used: Careless Whisper.

Any fingering weight yarn will work well, but make sure to get gauge!

Estimate amounts of fingering weight yarn per size: (760, 800, 900)(1000, 1100, 1200)(1250, 1300, 1400) yards; (695, 732, 823)(915, 1006, 1098)(1143, 1189, 1281) meters.

Needles

Size US 3, 3.25 mm knitting needles (for the ribbing);
Size US 4, 3.5 mm knitting needles;* (for main fabric)

with cable circumference suitable for knitting in the round (or magic loop) for your size
NOTE: please choose needle size to obtain gauge.

NOTE: please swatch in the round, using main fabric needles.

Notions

Stitch marker;
Darning needle;
Waste yarn or stitch holder;
Beads (optional; could be used in place of bobbles).

Gauge: 24 sts and 30 rows per 4 in / 10 cm, in stockinette stitch in the round, on main size needles, BLOCKED

Sizes and measurements

Finished garment circumference at bust: (36, 39, 42)(44, 48, 52)(57, 61, 65) in / (92, 100, 107)(112, 122, 133)(145, 155, 166) cm.

Ease: please pick a size based on the amount of positive ease you would like to have in your garment. I recommend 4 - 6 in / 10 - 15 cm of positive ease, based on your personal preference.

Yoke depth (measured from the middle of the neckline in the front, from the CO edge for the neckline, straight down, to the point of separation for sleeves and body): (8, 8.5, 9)(9.5, 10, 10.5)(11, 11.5, 12) in / (21, 22, 23)(25, 26, 27)(28, 30, 31) cm.

Sleeve length (from underarm down):

Short sleeves, ribbing built into the yoke section / custom length.

Body length (from underarm down):

about 15 in / 38 cm.
