The recommended yarn for this pattern comes from the oldest woolen mill in Canada, located in York Mills, New Brunswick, Canada. This woolen mill has been at the same location for over 150 years and still produces the highest quality wool yarn. Briggs and Little Tuffy yarn is a worsted weight wool/nylon blend. Durable and warm, it is perfect for Canadian winters!

This cowl is constructed using a scrap yarn provisional cast-on, then knit in the round forming a tube. The provisional stitches are then placed on a spare circular needle and grafted together with the active stitches, using a Kitchener Stitch graft. This creates a beautiful and warm double thick cowl.

The other option would be to cast on normally without the provisional cast-on, bind off loosely at the end of the pattern and seam the bind-off edge together with the cast-on edge. As the finished seam will be located on the center inside of the cowl, it will not be noticeable. This may be a great option for those who are not a fan of the provisional cast-on.

This pattern is knit using a stranded knitting technique for the charted portion of the pattern. I have included links to helpful tutorials in the pattern.
