This double-thickness cowl and fingerless mitts are inspired by the colors and lilting song of the American Goldfinch.

The cowl is worked bottom-to-top beginning with a crochet provisional cast on. The stranded designs for the outside and lining patterns are presented only as charts. The cowl edges are finished and joined with Kitchener Stitch.

The cowl can easily be made larger. To increase the circumference, add stitches in multiples of 24. Knit By Numbers is a light fingering weight yarn; using a heavier weight yarn will also result in a larger cowl. If using a heavier yarn, be sure to use a larger needle.

John Arbon Textiles Knit By Numbers is made from 100% Pure Falklands Merino wool with a put up of 400 m (approx 440 yards) per 100 g. It is supremely soft and luxurious. You will need 1 skein each of the black and yellow yarns to make both the cowl and fingerless mitts, with plenty left over should you wish to make your cowl or mitts larger.
