This is a convertible accessory that can be made into a shawl and/or cowl. Knit in 3 sections - a left and a right tip plus a middle section - each with buttons and/or buttonholes. You can join the 3 sections together to make a large crescent shawl, join the two edges of the middle section together to make a cowl or join the two tips to make a small shawl. I’ve also included instructions if you’d like to knit it as a one-piece shawl.

As I was making it and deciding which buttons to use, I searched through my Granny’s button box and found an array of cute, quirky and beautiful buttons to add character to this simple garter and rib shawl. Hence the name and with that Granny Kathleen has joined the pattern family!
