This is a crochet pattern for a classic, easy fitting, cropped style granny square top which is easy to adjust to fit a variety of sizes.

I used a DK weight cotton with a 4mm hook but other yarns can be used. The pattern is written to include instructions for sizes S through to 3XL but the fit can be adjusted.
The granny squares are joined to create a front panel and back panel made up of 5 granny squares across and 4 granny squares in height. Different sizes are obtained by adding widening rows to the sides before joining the front and back panels.

For the top pictured I used 5 colours of King Cole ‘Cottonsoft DK’ 100g (100% cotton, 210m/229yds).
Dominant colour: 3 balls for sizes S – L and 4 balls for XL – 3XL.
For the other colours you’ll need 1 ball for sizes S – L and 2 balls for sizes XL – 3XL.
