Guinevere Shawl
A circular shawl, knit from the center point out, with tiered bands of floral and garland lace motifs. The pattern contains charts only for the lace patterning. The pattern is cast on onto DPNs, and you will then switch to longer circular needles as the stitch count increases. The edging is completed with a crocheted edging, which is simple to work and yields a lovely open/lacey result.
The sample was knit with a single skein of 875 yards/100-gram laceweight yarn, but used all but about 10 yards of this skein. You may wish to purchase an extra skein (or work the final tier of lace in a contrasting color) to be sure you’ll have enough yardage. While gauge is not crucial for this project, it will affect how much yardage is used in knitting the shawl.
Skills required: Basic chart-reading skills, knitting in the round, increases/decreases.
Inspiration: Legendary queen of Arthur, Guinevere may have appeared in Welsh and Irish tales even before those of Arthur, as The White Enchantress. A symbol of all that is good at Camelot (although eventually brings about its downfall with her infidelity with Lancelot), she is represented here by concentric rings of floral garlands in this circular shawl.
This piece is also available as part of an 8-piece collection of knitwear in the Legendary Knits, volume 3, book.
