In Winter 2008/09 issue of Knit Simple Magazine, we asked our readers to knit a 12”/30.5cm heart-themed square using Coats & Clark’s Red Heart yarn in colors of their choice. After much deliberation, we picked twelve of our favorites—not an easy task, considering the hundreds of entries we received. We reknit a few of the winning squares in combinations of red, pink and white yarn, then joined all twelve together to create the afghan you see here. It was donated to a family in need through the Warm Up America! Foundation.

Each of the afghan squares measures approximately 11”/28cm square. Please note that there may be some slight differences in gauges and finished sizes of the individual squares.

The yarn amounts are given for each square, not for the overall blanket. It may be possible to use the remaining yarn from one square to complete another square.

Squares provided by:
Mandy Tempest; Renee Esposito; Anne DiCampli; Patricia Bellow; Sylvie Bédard; Melissa Larsen; Catherine A. Perrigo; Nicky Wetzel; Suzanne Astolfi Darrah; Hannah H. Vaught; Marni Faris; Lois Johnson
