Hawthorne
Worked flat and joined into the round, the Hawthorne cowl is a wonderful mix of vertical and horizontal textures and stripes that makes this interesting and fun to knit.
The fabric is completely reversible.
The finished cowl is approximately 9.5” wide and 40” long. You can wear it long and loose as a scarf, or wind it around your neck for extra warmth.
Started with a provisional cast-on of your choice, the cowl is worked flat in a Seeded Rib stitch and one-row garter stitch stripes and then joined by either grafting or a 3-needle bind-off.
In DK weight, you will need 250 yards of the Main Color (shown in the sample as Gray) and then 125 yards each of the two contrast colors (shown in the sample as Orange and Cream).
Size US 5 (3.76mm) needles are used to get the gauges of 20 sts and 30 rows = 4” (garter stitch) and 20 sts and 28 rows = 4” (Seeded Rib).
