The Hawthorne Hipster Shawl gets its name for a few reasons. I had lived in Portland, Oregon between 2012 and 2014 before moving back to my native Nevada, but I learned so much living there, including how to knit. When Jimmy Beans Wool released the now unavailable PDX Carpet Victory Sock yarn from Knitted Wit, I saw an opportunity to design something with it (especially since the original carpet is now torn out). Hawthorne Boulevard in the city is a street where my favorite yarn store, Happy Knits, is located, and it’s no secret that Portland has been a hipster haven for the longest time. This project is a way to honor my second hometown. This half circle shawl is shaped along the edges and with yarn overs, textured on and off in rows of garter and stockinette stitch, and decorated with slipped stitches. An easy lace section is incorporated, and a unique textured border is created with multiple short rows for a rippled effect, all before the piece is finished off with a picot bind off.

MATERIALS:
2 skeins of Fingering or Sock yarn (About 320 yards each)
• Color A: Cascade Heritage: Color 5632
• Color B: Knitted Wit Victory Sock: PDX Carpet
(For the yarns, I suggest a solid color for color A, and a variegated color for B).
