This pattern was originally written and designed for a 2 ply home-spun yarn consisting of southdown wool and alpaca. The resulting yarn was 12 wpi (wraps per inch) thickness. This translates most closely with sport weight yarn. Some of my fellow knitters have tested the pattern with a variety of comercial yarns and have had good results. The reason I listed Cascade 220 Sport, was that it was the most ‘universal’ yarn that I found so far that works with the pattern.
