The Hluka Square Shawl is worked from the centre out, knit entirely in the round. You begin with just a few stitches, then increase at the four corners until you reach your desired size. The shawl can be knit on circular needles—starting with magic loop until there are too many stitches to manage comfortably, or you can begin on DPNs and switch to circular needles once the stitch count grows. The sample shown uses a single skein of fingering-weight silk yarn and US 6 (4 mm) needles, giving it a light and drapey finish. My skein was generously sized at around 618 yards (565 m), so if your skein is closer to 350 yards (320 m), you’ll want two to achieve the same finished size.
