This little project is a great way to learn and practice knitting with beads. You can use an ecru fingering weight yarn, or grab that basket of sock scraps and get knitting. This is a 101-level project that eases you into two methods of adding beads to knitted fabric. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll find it hard to stop making them. (It’s a good thing that bookmarks make great gifts!) If you know how to long-tail cast on, knit, purl, and bind off, you can make this pattern. The pattern teaches the beading techniques. All you need besides yarn, needles, and beads are a Big Eye needle and a handmade folded wire. Fear of beading is a thing of the past once you work through this pattern. Written instructions and chart are included.

Sizes: 3-diamond (5-diamond).
Finished Measurements: 3-diamond: 4 1/4” long x 1 1/2” wide.
5-diamond: 7” long x 1 1/2” wide.

Beads: For edging, 56 (80) size 6/0 round seed beads. For diamonds, 27 (45) size 6/0 round seed beads. Allow for a few extra beads in case some have small holes.

Notions:
Big Eye needle for stringing beads onto yarn.
1 piece of Beadalon 7-strand bead stringing wire, .018”, cut 5” long with one end bent 1 1/4” from end. Tapestry needle and small, sharp scissors for finishing in ends.
Padded surface and rustproof pins for blocking.

Gauge in stockinette: Gauge is not critical in this pattern.
