Horse Banner Fingerless Mitts
Holding horses in the highest esteem and valuing them above all else, the Rohirrim is known for their horsemanship and calvary. Living on the vast plains of Rohan between the Misty Mountains and White Mountains with their villages nestled into hills, the Horse Lords are adept horse breeders. Breeding Mearas, the swiftest and noblest breed, it is these white horses that adorn Rohan’s green and white banners, also represented in their architecture, helmets, and armor. Rohan is also home to Éowyn, a female shieldmaiden and niece of King Théoden, who is crucial in the defeat of Sauron in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King during the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.
Inspired by the graphic and bold banners of Rohan, you, too, can represent Rohan while riding into battle with these fingerless mitts. Worked in the round from the bottom up, these fingerless mitts begin with 2x2 ribbing. Stranded colorwork Mearas motifs are stitched on the hand side, with armored plate motifs stitched into the palm side. A thumb gusset is worked at the same time as the body of the fingerless mitt, with the final colorwork duplicate stitched onto the thumb to avoid stranding across a small circumference. Ride on!
