Humble Dragon
Humble Dragon Cowl
Scale-like dimensional texture, with equally interesting reverse.
Worked in the round, bottom-up and inside-out.
Needs only a single hank (100 g) of light worsted or heavy DK.
A Basic Dragon. Created for those less confident of their skills, wanting a smaller project, or to get into the swing of the stitches before tackling the more complex Dragon Designs.
A single size scale, worked bottom up in the round, at a more manageable
9.5” (24.1 cm) Tall by 25” (63.5 cm) Circumference
Compared to Azure Dragon’s much larger -
14” (35.5 cm) Tall by 47” (119.5 cm) Circumference
and no overlapping larger scales to contend with.
Intermediate lace skills with unusual stitch constructions.
Non Standard Stitches: Directional YO Closures, ICDD.
Standard Stitches: k, p, yo, ssp2togtbl, p2tog.
Shifting end of round (marker movements).
Chart reading skills highly recommended, but written instructions also provided.

Gauge
Gauge is not critical but will affect size and yarn requirements.
In Blocked Scales Pattern 1 Small Scale
12 sts by 12 rounds = 1.5 x 1.75” (39 x 44 mm)
Blocked Stockinette
20 sts by 30 rounds = 4” (10 cm) square
Stockinette gauge provided for yarn and needle pairing and for usage considerations.
Fabric to your liking is more important than exact gauge.
…………
These scale segments are not only dimensional but overlap a bit and flex like armor plates.
Worked from knit (inner) side… No one wants to work only purls - am I right?
The directional YO closures and the inverse cdd will seem tedious and fiddly at first, like most new techniques. Remember learning cables? But you will get used to them pretty quickly.
You do need to pay attention to your knitting, but it has a logical progression.
