The Icy Rivulet Shawl reminds of thawing spring waters or one of those creeks that remain running even in the middle of cold winters. The lace section resembles the thin porous ice that forms on the sides of the rivulets on sunny winter days. The ruffles of the shawl look like shallow water running down stones.

This versatile shawl or wide scarf is worked from the bottom up starting with a 2x2 rib which is gathered with decreases at the top of the section to form flared ruffles. The ruffles flow into a simple yet impressive lace section. The knitting continues with a stockinette section, spiced up with thin purled columns that subtly hide the turning points of the short rows. The shawl is delicately crescent-shaped.

My revised self-published version (blue shawl) features an improved top edge that does not curl. In addition, the pattern which is available from my Ravelry Store itself is improved: previous mistakes are corrected, instructions for resizing and blocking are added, photo instructions for tubular CO and working short rows are included, the charts are sharper.
