Our home is deep in the French countryside, where time moves slowly, and Nature reigns. Behind our 19th century farmhouse is ancient woodland. Centuries old trees grow peacefully and, in the darkness of the undergrowth, ivy winds its way round the mature trunks and seeks the light.

When you wear this lovely garment, you can feel that you too are in peaceful woodland, listening to the birdsong and smelling the freshness of the Earth. You can wrap yourself up in it as a snood, a cowl or a shoulder wrap, and feel warm and nurtured.

This is ideal for a knitter who is looking to take the first step into cable knitting and charts. The pattern is repetitive and once you have done one repeat, the others are intuitive. If you can knit stitches together, and do yarn overs, you are good to go. The cables are single stitches held to the front or rear of the work, and my less experienced test knitters enjoyed knitting the wrap.

For a simple pattern, it has a lot of impact and can be worn as a shoulder warmer on a Summer day as it moves into evening, or as a throw-over on a winter outfit.

Into the Wild Woods is knit flat and then sewn together upon completion. It drapes elegantly as a snood and shoulder wrap, and is long enough to wrap around your neck twice for a cosy cowl. The pattern features decorative rib borders interspersed with simple cable ivy leaves. You can choose to do a repeat, as in the worked example, or a double or treble repeat to give a bigger snuggle.

The pattern is both charted and written.

The yarn used is Erika Knight Wild Wool Aran yarn which is 85% wool and 15% nettle viscose. Two skeins with total yardage of 340 metres/372 yards. Colour Pootle. Gauge 18 st x 26 rows.
