This 1841 honeycomb brioche variant by Mrs. (Jane) Gaugain requires double pointed or circular needles even though it’s knit flat. The 4-row pattern calls for changing colors every row. There is a 3-stitch repeat + 6 edge stitches. This pattern was originally intended for a muff but use it for any item you choose. The thick but airy texture would make a great insulating fabric.
The selvage stitches are optional but I found them useful for determining what color yarn I last used. The long yarn overs in brioche-style knitting can be confusing because they can lie on top of or even lie in front of the stitch that needs to be worked next. So this is not a good pattern to work when your attention is divided.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, p2tog and bind off.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able thread/yarn will work. Make a swatch to check size and appearance.

64 yards of Lion Brand 24/7 yarn will make 10 inches of a 30-stitch strip in the stated gauge:
32 yards of main color (MC) and 32 yards of contrasting color (CC)
