A swirling brioche pattern with echoes of Jugendstil, the German counterpart of Art Nouveau. Jugendstil combines geometric elements with sinuous curves inspired by flowers and plants. Please note that the pattern assumes you are familiar with the brioche knitting technique!

The pattern combines brioche knitting with stacked stitch decreases.
Brioche stitches include brioche knits and purls, sl1yo, and a 1 - 9 stitch increase. The stacked decreases are 9 - 1 stitch stacked centered double decreases.

Light color: Schoppel Wolle Zauberball Crazy, Gartenparty colorway, approximately 58g/243m/266yds
Dark color: Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn, Purple Reign colorway, approximately 50g/200m/218yds
Dimensions of swatch: 19in/48cm long by 19in/48cm wide
Gauge: approximately 14 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches/10cm in Brioche stripes

The swatch was knit on 3.5mm/US4 needles, with five repeats of the chart.
The collage image shows a project with thirteen repeats of the chart, approximately 66in/167cm long by 20in/51cm wide, requiring a bit more than one ball/skein of each colorway. Allow two balls/skeins of each colorway for a larger project.
Alternatively you can supplement one skein of Hedgehog and one Zauberball with leftovers of different yarns, splicing in lengths every now and then for more variety in the colorwork.

I used a plain dark color and a self-striping light color - using two Zauberball colorways will create extra visual interest as their various tones and colors interact with each other.
I did not block this project.

This is a charted pattern with some notes on brioche techniques. For clarity and ease of use, the chart shows patterned rows only and does not use standardized Brioche symbols and notation.

Please ignore the following “advice” in the notes of one of the projects if you are considering knitting this pattern - they are completely wrong and will lead to confusion!:
“you only get explanations about the first series of stacked decreases. For the second series (mirrored), you’re supposed to figure out by yourself how they work , which is time consuming and frustrating. Instead of several A4 views of the finished shawl, just two sentences explaining WHERE exactly in the increase 1 into 9 to place the decreases would have been really helpful.”
This is wrong! You can just knit the pattern as written.
