Water inspired this luxurious diamond-motif cowl with its mother-of-pearl hues and silver beads. In Lithuanian folklore, Jūratė, a goddess or water spirit, once ruled the Baltic Sea from her underwater castle made of amber until she fell in love with a human fisherman named Kastytis. In different versions of the story, a god who disapproved of the romance either smashed the castle or killed Kastytis, causing Jūratė to weep endlessly. Lithuanians who found amber on the shore had come across a bit of the castle or one of Jūratė’s tears.
