This pattern took two years to evolve from it’s simpler beginnings into a sweater that I can be proud of and feels truly special! As you knit the Kaslo Campfire Sweater, you join me on a journey through destruction and creation, ultimately finding Peace, Beauty and Understanding. It is reminiscent of my childhood playing in the creeks and forests of the beautiful Kootenay region, as if I were living in my very own fairy tale.

The Kaslo Campfire Sweater is a moderately easy sweater to knit! It is knit flat and then seamed together with the neck finished in the round. The main body of the sweater and sleeves are knit in garter stitch. These simple and squishy garter stitches are accented with finely detailed ribbing, elbow pads, I-Cord wrist and neck ties and a hoodie pocket. The elbow pads require slipping stitches, and create a hard wearing sleeve that will last through years of camping. The ribbing, knit in multiples of 12 stitches and 2 repeating rows, is clean, simple and delicate - not what you would expect for a camping sweater but ties in the wonder and allure of the overall design, making you look twice before you really take it in. Just like the utter beauty of the Kootenay area.
