Jamiesons of Shetland Spindrift 100% wool (105m/115yd per 25g ball):
1 ball 127 Pebble (A)
1 ball 187 Sunrise (B)
1 ball 237 Thistledown(C)

Yarn substitution:
The following approximate quantities of a similar fingering weight yarn may be used (quantities may vary depending upon gauge and type of yarn):
A – 79m/87yd
B – 83m/91yd
C – 65m/71yd

Needles and Notions
3mm/US 2.5 (or size required to obtain gauge over stranded colourwork) circular needle, 40cm/16in length.
Set of 4 DPNs in gauge size for working centre of crown.
2.75mm/US 2 (or one size smaller than gauge needle) circular needle, 40cm/16in length.
Stitch marker, tapestry needle for finishing, dinner plate & bowl for blocking.

Gauge
24 sts and 34 rounds to 10cm/4in, after wet blocking, across stranded colourwork at widest part of crown. Gauge immediately above ribbing is 30 sts and 38 rnds to 10cm/4in across stranded colourwork. Gauge achieved using 3mm/US 2.5 needle. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain gauge.

Measurements and Sizing
Diameter of crown 27cm/10.5in; ribbing 53cm/21in to fit head of 55-60cm/21.5-23.5in circumference.

Skills Required
The pattern uses stranded colourwork, although not requiring the anchoring of longer yarn floats behind work. Other techniques include German twisted cast-on and corrugated ribbing. Links to information on these techniques are available on my blog.
