This poncho is fully designed for the knitter in mind. The armholes are placed so you can easily knit (crochet) while wearing a long poncho. In the notes section of the pattern it explains how to adjust the armhole placement, make it shorter and therefore less wide. The poncho pictured measures 27” in length, 22” neck width and 68” hem width. The handspun cashmere was amazing to work with but the final piece was a bit expensive (luxury to wear = spoiled myself).

To experiment with the design (ie: cut the cost), I had the poncho test knit by Sarah who is a wonderful knitter and friend. She used Natura by Austermann which is a merino, bamboo, cotton, alpaca and mohair blend with 109 yards in a skein. This poncho ended up feeling like a hug…light and airy and super soft. Two of my friends (lovely and talented ladies) made the poncho with the same yarn; however, they needed many more skeins. Sarah = 9 skeins, Marilyn = 14 skeins and Kathy = 11 skeins.
