Lady of the Wood Fingerless Mittens
The Lady of the Wood Mitts pattern is also available in ‘Novel Knits’, a book celebrating British Literature in stitches.
In the works of J.R.R. Tolkien ‘Lady of the Wood’ is one of the titles used for Galadriel, the elven queen of Lothlórien.
Leaf lace with beaded and pointed edgings adorn these very feminine mittens.
They may be made in any 2ply/laceweight yarn with good blocking properties (i.e. with a high content of natural fibre). As with all lace knitting, blocking is essential to bring out the beautiful leaf pattern, and for these mittens it is also recommended in order to attain a good fit.
This project also calls for 56 size 6/0 seed beads.
The pattern includes full written instructions and a supporting chart, and contains links to relevant online tutorials for the special techniques used (threading beads, the twisted German cast-on, and a provisional cast-on).
Any method of small-diameter circular knitting is appropriate for this design (with two circulars, DPNs, or magic loop), so choose needles according to your personal preference.
Many thanks to testers CathyWithaC, legknit, EllaJ, keikihula, telogirl2003, TrulyBlessed, kikkitull, Doveyyyyyyyyyyy, sparkie, thechickwithstix, and kims for working with me so wonderfully to prepare this pattern for publication!
