The Landmark Beanie is a real wardrobe essential, and is both easy to wear and to knit. Its stylish deep brim is folded over to frame the wearer’s face and the beanie can be worn high and close fitting above the ears or settled lower over the ears with more depth as shown in our images.

The Landmark Beanie is knitted in the round from the brim upwards to the crown. It is a simple knit introducing the knitter to simple decreasing and working in the round with a circular needle and knitted in chunky wool, it knits up extremely quickly. The pattern includes three sizes for differing head circumferences. To find the right size for you, use a tape measure to measure your head at its widest point and select the pattern size closest to this and follow the instructions for this size. The pattern can also easily be adjusted for the perfect height of beanie, by simple increasing or reducing the number of straight knit rounds worked before the crown shaping commences.

The Landmark Beanie is knitted in Susan Crawford Wold Chunky, a sturdy 100% British wool chunky yarn, spun exclusively for us in a nearby Yorkshire mill. Wold Chunky, unlike many similar chunky yarns, holds its shape and structure really well, making it perfect for repeated use and longevity. Worsted spun, it is also smooth against the scalp. We have used the hand-dyed shade Hay Bale for our sample, a greyish-yellow but would look great in any of the colour palette dyed here at our Lake District studio.

The sample is worked in shade Hay Bale.

The hats shown in photographs are the second size beanie and the third size slouchy, both worn by Susan who has a 55cm (22in) head circumference.

The pattern contains clear written instructions.

Yarn kits are available at Susan Crawford Vintage.
