Notes from the Designer:

Lilias was the name of a character from the book The Secret Garden. She had her beautiful garden nestled on the grounds of Misselthwaite Manor, and she spent many happy times there with her husband Lord Archibald Craven. Sadly, Lilias died, and the whole house seemed to fall into despair at her passing. But her niece Mary discovered the secret garden nearly 10 years later and was able to bring it back to life. Her discovery led to the renewal of the whole estate and helped bring healing to her uncle and cousin. This shawl features simple stitches that resemble plants, ivy, and flowers. The design is easily customizable and perfect for a stroll outside in your favorite garden.

  • Click here to watch a video on how to knit all the sections in this shawl.
  • The sample shown used approximately 1159 yds/1060 m total: Color A: 311 yds/284 m, Color B: 284 yds/260 m, Color C: 311 yds/284 m, and Color D: 253 yds/231 m.
  • This shawl is worked flat from the bottom up. You can knit until the shawl reaches the dimensions of the sample, or stop knitting when you run out of yarn. This pattern is also ideal for using stash yarn, since the shawl is finished whenever you feel that it’s big enough.
  • The sample pairs the different stripes with a particular color, but feel free to swap the stitch patterns and colors if you choose.
