The task of DAL 5 was to combine stitch patterns with different characteristics. Mari wanted a simple design with a little bit of playfulness for this hooded cardigan with the stitch patterns starting at the hem and flowing up to the hood. She used one pattern repeat as a border that extended from the hem to the top of the hood, but on the back of the cardigan Mari had enough length to gradually change from one pattern to another. Mari enjoyed the challenge of this task. The Linden tree provides one of her favorite woods for carving puppets. She named the cardigan after tree because the stitch pattern reminds her of the shape of its leaves.
