Little Red
June 29: Italian version now available, thanks to ajroldi
“Little Red” is a hooded, finger-length cape sized for toddlers (18 mos, 2 years, 4 years). It is worked in one piece from the bottom up in stockinette stitch with a garter stitch border. Decrease rows below the neck gather the fabric in to shape the neck, and increases worked just above the neck shape the hood. A pewter clasp fastens the cape at the neck.
If you want to make a cape in a larger size, here are some tips on how to re-size the pattern:
To re-size the pattern, math is involved: you need to measure the child you’re knitting for, taking the same measurements as given in the original directions. You also need a gauge swatch and know how many stitches to the inch you get with the yarn and needles you’re using for this project. Based on the gauge and new measurements, you can plug your numbers into the old pattern. For example: if the new chest measurement is 36” and your gauge is 4 sts = 1”, you would cast on 144 sts (36x4), and if your new neck measurement is 14”, then you’ll want to decrease down to 56 sts.
