Little Stinkers Sweater
Please be sure to check out my blog post with helpful tips about duplicate stitch: https://bridgetpupillodesigns.com/2019/09/14/hedgehogs-part-three-duplicate-stitch/
Who knew skunks could be so cute? Little stinkers waddle along the yoke of this child’s sweater, flanked by Fair Isle patterns. The sweater is worked in the round from the bottom up to the underarms, sleeves are worked separately and attached, and then the yoke is worked in the round as one piece. While the stranded knitting design calls for up to four colors at once, the yoke shaping is simple. A second version of the chart is included with only two colors per row, for those who choose to use duplicate stitch to add extra colors after knitting is complete.
The pattern includes five sizes to fit children 2 (4, 6, 8, 10) years.
The gauge is 22 stitches and 24 rows over 4” (10cm) in stranded stockinette stitch, blocked.
This is an intermediate level pattern. Knitters should have experience with stranded knitting technique, long carries, and following color charts. Knitters will also use basic shaping techniques and Kitchener Stitch technique. Since the skunk motif in this pattern call for up to four colors in a row, some knitters may opt to use the duplicate stitch technique.
The recommended yarn for this pattern is Knit Picks Swish DK (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 123 yards/50g). You will need 4 (5, 5, 6, 6) balls of Twilight (#24961), and 1 ball each of Black (#27225), White (#24064), Cornmeal (#24952), and Marble Heather (#24636).
You will also need 24” or 32” (60 or 80 cm) circular needles and DPNs in size US 6 (4.0 mm), or size to obtain gauge, and 24” or 32” (60 or 80 cm) circular needles in size US 5 (3.75 mm), or one size smaller than size to obtain gauge.
This pattern includes a schematic, full color chart, a two-color chart for optional duplicate stitch, written instructions, and notes on Kitchener Stitch technique.
