Loose Ends is a fun-filled design, with carefree garter stitch and eye-catching stripes that are truly addictive.

This fingering-weight shawl combines a main color with a set of five mini-skeins. Its unusual construction makes this an especially interesting knit — it begins in the center with two quick and simple top-down triangles. The triangles are then seamlessly knitted together to begin the sides of the scarf.

Each side is knitted on the bias, producing dramatic diagonal stripes. Then, at each end of the scarf, the main color is gradually striped with each color from the mini-skein set, leaving loose ends that are knotted together into a colorful fringe. This means that you don’t need to weave in all of those ends, but you do get to have fun playing with your favorite colors — how perfect!

The finished shawl features lively angles and brilliant stripes to light up winter days.

Approximately 768 yds/702 m fingering-weight yarn, such as Cloudborn Superwash Merino Fingering, in Main Color (MC) (shown in Charcoal Heather)

Approximately 233 yds/213 m fingering-weight yarn, such as Cloudborn Merino Superwash Sock Twist, in Colors 1-5 (shown in the Scarlet Ibis mini set, using the darkest red for Color 1 and the lightest red for Color 5):

• 42 yds/38 m of Color 3
• 13 yds/12 m of Color 4
• 25 yds/23 m of Color 5

2 Sets of US 5/3.75 mm circular needles (or size necessary to achieve gauge), preferably 32”/80 cm in length
9 Stitch markers, including 2 in a contrast color
1 Removable stitch marker
2 Stitch holders or pieces of scrap yarn
