“Lotta” is a very special design: I created it for my newborn granddaughter (named Lotta, of course!). Cardigan and hat are very easy to knit - so this pattern is also the right project for beginners.

The Lotta sweater is buttoned sideways - so you won’t have to pull it over the baby’s hat. You work it top-down in one piece, first in striped stockinette stitch, afterwards in a simple slip stitch pattern (remark: you will never have to work with 2 colors at the same time!). The hat ist knitted in the round, combining slip stitch pattern and stripes again.

Cardigan:
0 - 3 months (3 - 6 months, 6 - 9 months, 9 - 12 months);
bust circumference of finished cardigan: 17 (18½, 19, 20) inches 45 (47, 49, 51) cm

Hat:
0 - 3 months, (3 - 6 months, 6 - 9 months, 9 - 12 months);
head circumference of finished hat: 13 (14½, 16, 17) inches 33 (37, 41, 44) cm

Gauge:
27 sts and 36 rows = 4” (10 x 10 cm)

Materials:

• Madelinetosh Tosh Merino light (100% merino wool, yardage 420 yards 384 m / 110 g);
  1 (1, 2, 2) skeins in main color 1 (1, 1, 2) skeins in contrasting color

• US size 1 and 2 2,5 und 3 mm circular needles (or any size to obtain gauge)

• US size 1 and 2 2,5 und 3 mm} double pointed needles

• stitch markers

• 5 buttons (ore more), 15 mm diameter
