Louise’s Hat
This colourful and easy to knit hat, named after the clever lady who dyes this gorgeous yarn herself, will make you feel pretty happy in the cold and dull days of winter, as well as really cosy and warm, head wrapped up in pure soft Merino wool!
A simple design with a very easy stitch pattern that enhances the colours of the yarn, it is also a very quick project to knit up, perfect for winter gifts…!
For convenience and ease, the pattern is written in two versions, so this hat can be either knitted flat and seamed, or knitted in the round using your preferred method of circular knitting.
Materials:
1 x 100g skein of “It’s time to fall in love” Chunky Merino by Bow Fiddle Yarns (100% Superwash Merino, approx. 100m / 109yds)
One pair of 5.50mm straight needles (Version A), 5.50mm circular needle (80-100cm if using the Magic Loop technique) or long Double Pointed Needles (Version B)
One pair of 6mm straight needles (Version A), circular needle (80-100cm if using the Magic Loop technique) or long Double Pointed Needles (Version B)
stitch marker to mark beginning of the round (Version B)
Finished Size:
Approximately 21” circumference x 9” deep. Please note that the slipped st pattern and ribbed brim add a lot of elasticity to the hat, which stretches up to 24” very easily.
If you wish to make a smaller circumference hat, keep to using the 5.50mm needles throughout.
Knitting Tension / Gauge:
Tension is not critical for this project, as the hat is very stretchy, but here are some measurements useful for guidance as you knit (note you can measure them over 2cm or 5cm too):
16 sts x 26 rows / rounds = 10 cm in slipped stitch patt using 6mm needle
