Love Bug & Baby Love Bug
My mother used to buy a similar little pompom character for me when I was a little girl. I have no idea what they called them back then. I remember they came with a sticker on the bottom of their feet, and I would perch mine on my shoulder until the sticky wore off. They were so simple, but I remember how much I loved playing with them. So, here’s my crocheted version of a childhood memory.
The Love Bug is a quick project, working up in about half an hour. It’s perfect for using up your leftovers, as it doesn’t use much yarn, and the kids love them!
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Intermediate
MATERIALS
FOR BABY LOVE BUG….
- Worsted weight yarn (medium 4)
-I used 4g of Loops & Threads, Impeccable in Rich Orchid for one of the babies, and Lavender for the other baby.
-I used 2.5g (combined weight) of Red Heart, Super Saver in Cherry Red and Patons, Canadiana in Cardinal worked together to form the feet
-5.5mm hook for feet
- 4mm hook for head/body
- Two 12mm safety eyes in desired color (not recommended for children under 3)
FOR ADULT LOVE BUG…..
- I used 10.5g of Bernat, Roving (bulky 5) for each little guy, in Low Tide for one, and Quartz Pink for the other
OR
- Worsted weight (Medium 4) working two strands of worsted weight together, 10.5g (total)
- 5.5 mm hook for head/body and feet -3.75mm hook for heart antennas
- Two 15mm safety eyes in desired color (not recommended for children under 3
FOR ALL SIZES OF LOVE BUG….
- Fiberfill
- Doll making needle (or whatever needle you like to sew your pieces together extra firm.
- brush or carding comb (I prefer my little girl’s detangling brush. I find that it does the job with less fiber breakage)
- scissors for trimming and shaping
