Love Knot Baby Blanket
This is a very special blanket. I first designed it several years ago to welcome my niece into the world. My sister-in-law is of Irish heritage, so I wanted to come up with a pattern that somehow evoked a Celtic Knot. The original blanket came out beautifully, but the pattern needed further refining. When my dear friend Vivian said she was expecting a baby girl, I knew it was time for this design to be perfected. The following is the result. Knit it for very special little ones.
This blanket is knit in the round from the center out. The cabled border is knit on to finish the edges. There is no binding off, and minimal finishing is required.
Yarn - Approximately 800 yards fingering-weight yarn. Sample shown in Hazel Knits Entice (70% superwash merino/20% cashmere/10% nylon; 400 yards/115 gram skein), colorway Carnelian.
Gauge - 24 sts = 4” in stockinette stitch. Measured after blocking.
Needles - US #4/3.5mm or size to get gauge. Sample completed with one set of 5 8” double-pointed needles, one 24” circular and one 32” circular.
Notions - Crochet hook (used for provisional cast-on), cable needle, waste yarn, 8 stitch markers, tapestry needle.
Skill level - Intermediate (picking up stitches, cabling, wrap & turn).
Size/Finished measurements: Approximately 30” square. Measured after blocking. However size can easily be altered; just make sure you have a multiple of 5 sts per side before beginning cabled edging (and the necessary amount of yarn!).
