This textured-rib scarf with ribbed borders and slip-stitch edges is a classic - simple yet interesting, and easy enough for a brand new knitter.
The stitch patterns use just knit and purl stitches. And the scarf is knit flat in one piece from one end to the other.

Scarf is 9” wide and 72” long.
Yarn:
Sunday Knits 5 ply Eden (100% merino), Nirvana (92% merino, 8% cashmere), Angelic (75% merino, 25% angora) or Brigadoon (100% merino tweed); (each blend has 137 yd /125 m to 13⁄4 oz / 50 g):
3 skeins. Shown in Nirvana rain.
Substitute any light worsted weight yarn - 415 yd.
Needles:
Size 7/4.5 mm for scarf, 6/4.0 mm for ribbed border.
Notions:
Tapestry needle to weave in ends.
Gauge:
20 sts = 4” / 10 cm in pattern stitch on larger needles.
