Lumberjack Mitts
This pattern is no longer available. We’d like to thank Holli Yeoh for her work in creating beautiful patterns for our (now discontinued) Epic yarn. Please visit Holli Yeoh to see her amazing design work, by clicking the designer button above.
Keep your hands warm in complete Canadian style with this checkered motif that suits both Lumber Jacks and Jackies! Whether you’re splitting wood, cross-country skiing or taking the huskies out for a run, you’ll want to wear these iconic mittens.
The oh-so-clever mitten construction involves intarsia and slip stitches to create the checkered effect and the cuffs are added later and worked in the round— make them as long or as short as you like.
Available in six sizes!
This knitting pattern includes written directions and thoughtful details.

Substitution Notes
The mittens are worked at a worsted/aran weight yarn that knits up at 4.5 to 5 sts per inch (2.5 cm) on 4 to 5 mm (US 6-8) needles. Choose a yarn with some wool content for warmth.
Knit Picks Wool of the Andes (affiliate) would be the perfect substitution for this now discontinued yarn.
Techniques
Knitting in the round, worked flat, provisional crochet cast on, intarsia, slipped stitches, swing knitting, seaming, afterthought thumb.
