Lunar Phase '24 MKAL
This is mystery knitalong inspired by the phases of the moon and celestial bodies. We will make a shawl that begins with a traditional shape and then takes flight with some swoops and surprises.
The pattern is divided into four clues over four weeks – one clue per week. As a group, we’ll keep the clues secret so everyone can enjoy the mystery.
Buy today and receive a Pre-KAL guide with more about yarn choices, but here are some details:
Dates
You’ll receive notices by email and ravelry mail on:
Clue #1 – September 1, 2024
Clue #2 – September 6
Clue #3 – September 13
Clue #4 – September 20
Big Reveal! – Extended to September 30th.
On the 30th, we’ll share our shawls with no more secrets.
You do not need to adhere to this schedule. This is your project! But once the week has passed, it’s fair game for everyone to share spoilers for that clue.
Yarn
You will use three colors of fingering weight yarn, 400+ yards/366+ meters each. Think of them as representing the night sky, luminous moon, and bright stars. Each requires a 400+ yard/366+ m skein.
The sky and moon can be speckled, tonal, variegated, or whatever you like. The star color should be tonal or solid and contrast strongly with the other two. There is more information in the Pre-KAL Guide.
Kits are not required, but they are gorgeous and you should definitely take a look!
Techniques Used
This shawl is suitable for adventurous beginners on up. Beginners with experienced friends to guide them will have fun with its simple stitch patterns. More advanced knitters will enjoy shaping, color, and some “TV knitting”.
You will need to read a pattern that uses typical knitting abbreviations and might look complex.
You will knit, purl, increase, decrease, use stitch markers, and carry one color of yarn up the side of your work when you’re not using it.
A few other twists and turns will be introduced within the clues, but I won’t describe them here, so there are no spoilers. Anything unusual will be explained in the pattern.
