In The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf is described as wearing “a tall pointed blue hat, a long grey cloak, and a silver scarf.”

My interpretation of the scarf is knitted in a gentle silver colour, using a yarn with great stitch definition to show off the moiré pattern. This is a great scarf to wrap around your neck in the depths of a Middle Earth winter, whether you are gnarled old wizard or a beautiful elf.

31cm wide x 204cm long excluding tassels

This scarf starts and ends with Garter stitch before working the moiré pattern (worked in stockinette and garter stitch) from the chart or written instructions. Finally, tassels are added to create a fringe at both ends.

If you are using a different yarn to the one suggested, you will need approx 1080m of DK yarn.

For added magic, knit it in a DK with lurex or stellina spun in!
