This is a generously proportioned double-sided garter stitch pattern for an asymmetrical shawl with a bonus pattern for a covered coat-hanger.
This pattern is perfect for showing off the yarn that you fell in love with because it can be worked in any gauge and to any size without changing the proportions of the shawl. It starts at the bottom and works up, making it easy to stop when you are happy with the size.
It uses simple stitches (k, k2tog, yo and an eye-cord bind off) to create a beautiful lace edged shawl and it is an ideal project for an inexperienced knitter or someone looking for a project that doesn’t need too much concentration but still produces something wonderful with elegant details. It features a simple two stitch lace edge on the long side and a simple Shetland style lace on the short edge.
I’ve used a wool and bamboo blend called Morris & Sons Quartet to give the shawl some drape. I used 8, 50g balls and had about 25g left - a total used of about 950m. A gradient yarn would work well.
